So, I am back having survived another Burning Man, and with another Burn (as in 2023) seemingly impacted by greater weather variability. We got hit by 3 major weather events in 4 days and spent most of that time rebuilding the camp and dance area after each one! Still, we survived and Camp Gecko became known on the Playa as the post-disaster party stalwarts!

And, of course more importantly, crazy weather always impacts the music. I still managed to play three of the four sets I had planned, so I was pretty happy with that. This year I took a 14 track set to the Playa, that was predominantly new tracks that had never been played Live before. So just getting them ready in time and delivered is enough of a win for me. Some of the tracks are also emerging as new Live favourites, and possible candidates for the next official releases.

The highlight of my music escapades on the Playa

always the solo Sunset Set that I do on the last Friday. BY then the body and mind are all at a serious low ebb, but it is always a special time to play. My takeaway trick from 2024 is to always pick a ‘playground’ art piece that all the burners with flock to to have a play. Last year it was the Unicorn Slide, this year I picked the The Cosmic Carousel by Michael Walsh. This way I always have a captive audience even if they’re not necessarily captivated by my music!

Ok, that’s about the news for August, I’ll follow up with some detailed set posts once I can edit the video and audio from the recordings.

I’m back to Australia this evening and back into the music production engine!!
